i (heart) dogs

Do you love dogs as much as I do? (Yes, it’s true—I may be a Cat Lady, but I still love dogs.)

Well, there happens to be a Senate Bill coming up for a vote in Pennsylvania, & YOU can help to get it passed!  (I don’t know if you need to be a PA resident to participate in this letter-writing campaign, but I doubt it matters…the important thing is to flood PA representatives with letters on SB 373 in hopes of making them realize how important it is to protect dogs across the state!)

Among other things, Senate Bill 373 (a.k.a. SB 373) states:

Dogs who are tethered outside MUST have access to drinkable water at all times.

Dogs must be brought inside if the temperature drops below 32 degrees or rises above 90 degrees, or if the National Weather Service issues a Severe Weather Warning.

Tethers must be made of materials that will not allow the dog to become tangled.

Tethered dogs must have shade provided during warm months (May 1 – Oct. 31).

Dog houses must have a wind break during cold months (Nov. 1 – March 31).

Now, most of you know that I don’t believe in keeping pets outdoors at all.  There should be no such thing as an “outdoor dog” or a dog who lives its life tied/chained to a doghouse or tree or trapped inside a wire kennel.  🙁   But sometimes baby steps are necessary to get where we need to be, & this is part of that process.  First we get this bill passed…soon we get even better laws passed! :peace:

So if you’re of a mind to help Pennsylvania dogs, please do the following:

1.)  Buy or find TWO “dog” cards.  It doesn’t matter what kind of card; even if it says Happy Birthday or Get Well soon, the important thing is that each card has a picture of a dog/dogs on the front!

2.)  In large, easy-to-read print, write something like this on the inside:  “PLEASE vote for Senate Bill 373!  I love dogs and am writing to you to encourage you to PLEASE help them by passing SB 373!”  Use your own words; feel free to be creative, but remember to be polite. :sun juice:   And completely ignore the fact that you may be using a “special occasion” card—I covered the Get Well Soon message on mine with dog stickers.

3.)  If you’re so inclined you can also use a magic/Sharpie marker to write “I  DOGS!” on the card.  (I used black & red Sharpie markers to write that on the top inside portion of the card, then wrote the rest of my message (Step 2) on the bottom.  :typing: )

4.)  Mail one card to:

Rep. Ron Marsico
Capitol Office
315 J Main Capitol Building
P.O. Box 202105
Harrisburg, PA 17120-21-5

4a.)  Mail the other card to:

Hon. Joseph A. Patrarca
220 Irvis Office Building
P.O. Box 202055
Harrisburg, PA 17120-2055

Thank you so much!  And PA’s dogs thank you, too…especially those who are chained, tethered, or fenced outside 24/7, in all kinds of weather, & have been virtually forgotten by their “owners.”

You won’t be alone in this, either.  :rollercoaster:
Madame Mommy Dearest & I have already sent our cards, of course, but SPCAs & other animal organizations, as well as many pet-loving citizens throughout the state are also participating.  With luck, we can flood the Senate with cards & let them know we not only LOVE DOGS, but want them to be better protected in our state!
