writer, interrupted
As you can probably imagine, I haven’t been getting much writing done lately. Try practically zero. The surgery & following recovery have really set me back, even more than I was expecting.
Now, I know there are dedicated, guerrilla writers out there, who jury-rig their laptops to hang from the ceiling over their beds so they can type the day after waking from a coma, but I am SO not that type of person. When I feel like crap, I can’t do much of anything but sit there feeling like crap. And even though I tend to heal quickly (from the actual cuts, breaks, bruises, incisions, etc.) the rest of me takes much longer to recoup. The lethargy & fogginess & continued pain meds have me just dragging.
It should be noted, however, that I have made several “attempts” at being productive. I get geared up. I surround myself with my notes, my Alphie, my previous chapters. I even do that little spider dance with my fingers, getting warmed up for a major writing session. And then either…
…or…
It is not pretty, let me tell you.
Thank goodness for my wonderful Desire editors, who have been so understanding & patient while I try to haul my butt back toward some semblance of a routine. No luck yet, but I’m working on it. Really, I am.
And Agent Extraordinaire had a great idea to help me get back on track. He suggested that, in addition to simply reading back through what I have so far of my current work-in-progress (a new secret baby story for Harlequin Desire!), I try typing it in all over again. The hope is that it will not only get me totally enmeshed with my characters & storyline again, but get me back into the habit of type-type-tickety-tack-typing.
So that is going to be my first step & my new goal. I know I love my current project & was having plenty of fun with it in the beginning…now let’s see if I can shake off this post-op fog & dive back in!

Maybe you need some outside stimulations.. Is there a Dial-a-Hunk or Hunks-R-US around that he could come over and just sit there with you or maybe fetch and carry for you.. Might just stimulate those writing juices or something else…. and that book will just write it self.. Just a thought….
Keep working at it and it will be done in no time.

Sounds like you have a good editor that understands the process/mind works. I’ll have to remember that next time I have to write anything, say like Class Outlines. Let’s just say the one I just turned in took me 12 weeks to finish and I finished the night before I HAD to turn it in. But my teacher liked it so…YAY ME! :booby

Heidi the most important thing is for you to get healed well and with that comes the need for rest. Take care of yourself and your health and the rest will come . I will say a special prayer for your healing and recovery and when you are ready I will give you a virtual kick in the pants and say get going!! Hugs and love ya…………I am still healing my broken heart and that is going to be a long time coming.

New hunk of the month? New smilies? I’ve been missing the Dungeon lately thanks to an extra day at work and an art job…and making my own Christmas cards. And shopping. And writing a new book. And submitting Golden Heart… sheesh! :houhoh
In my defense, I did show up for Hunk of the Month but I was on my iPad, I can’t see the voting thingy so I couldn’t tap my vote. It’s all for the best considering I couldn’t very well place a vote if I had to see my Darling Henry leave the side bar. :booby
Oh, sorry, this wasn’t supposed to be my personal gripe box was it? Sorry, I’m a little off my Sm:)e Feel Good game since I have a cold.
Whoops, there I go again. :turkey
I LOVE your editor’s idea about retyping the story. :candycane At least then it’s a way to FEEL productive. I’ve determined that I get a lot more done if I actually sit in my office. Surrounded by notes, files and sticky-pads have a way of making me feel productive.
Best of luck getting back on the horse! You can do eet!
xo!
