yes, no, maybe?

So last week I complained about several beloved shows that won’t be coming back in the fall. :may38

This week, I thought I’d wonder aloud (or through the written word, as the case may be) if I should give any new shows a try.  Here are a few that have maybe piqued my interest:

Murder in the First (TNT) — I always like a good crime drama, & TNT has impressed me with The Closer & Major Crimes…but not Rizzoli & Isles, King & Maxwell, or Franklin & Bash. :may24   (Maybe the trick is to avoid anything with an ampersand in the middle, huh? :may32 )  But am I going to like that this one shows the crime flat-out, then spends an hour figuring out how to nail the perpetrator?  And do I really need another maybe/maybe not show to add to my DVR? :may6

The Last Ship (TNT) — I’m not the least bit clear on what this one is going to be about, but from the previews I suspect it may be a deadly virus outbreak show.  I like that sort of thing, especially if it in any way leads to zombies. :mat27   However, I’m not sure how I’ll feel about a show that takes place entirely on a single ship.  And I also gave SyFy’s Helix a try last season & grew bored rather quickly.

The Strain (FX) — Ditto what I said about The Last Ship, give or take.  The Strain apparently has to do with vampirism, which is almost as good as zombie-ism, but frankly, FX has yet to impress me with any of its original programming.  (Yes, this includes Justified, Sons of Anarchy, The Shield, Anger Management, Saint George, etc….I’ve just never been able to get into any of them. :may16 )

I also have to say that some of the previews & that worm crawling through that eyeball squick me out.  But I kind of like stuff that squicks me out, so that may be a plus. :may35

Undateable (NBC) — The only reason I’m even considering this one is that it stars Chris D’Elia.  He’s a total cutie & I loved him on Whitney.  But then, every time I see him, I just get sad that the beyond hysterical Whitney was ever cancelled to begin with. :may38

NCIS:  New Orleans (CBS) — This is the one I’ll almost definitely record & watch…at least for a while,  until I’ve fully made up my mind.Partly because I liked the spin-off/crossover episode of NCIS, & partly because of Scott Bakula & Lucas Black.  I’m not 100% sure I buy Bakula’s accent, but I’ve been a fan of Black’s since American Gothic.  That said, I’m still a little on the fence about it. :may4   I love NCIS, but feel very so-so about NCIS: Los Angeles; I only continue to watch because Deeks is some much-needed comic relief.

That’s about it; those are the only shows I might be even moderately interested in based on the trailers I’ve seen so far.

Have I missed anything that you think will be good? :May10

And what new shows are you planning to try this summer?  :may9

    Outlander on Starz

    • Heidi says:

I heard about that, but even if I got Starz, I don’t think I’d watch, especially since I’ve never read the book. (Ack! Don’t kill me! :may12 ) I know, I know—everybody says I should, but it’s just too daunting & has never appealed to me, story-wise.

If I did get Starz, though, I might be willing to give it a shot…then maybe it would get me to finally read the book. :May10

      • Susan Frank says:

It is pretty daunting, as are the rest in the series. But Diana is such a marvelous writer it’s easy to get immersed in the story.

The series looks like it’s going to be amazing. I’ve been following all the info on facebook and they are working hard to be faithful to the book.

The director himself said “My wife is the #1 fan of Outlander and my job, simply put, is not to screw up her favorite book”

I’d say watching it could give you the motivation to read the book. I will admit that the first couple chapters might be a bit slow, but once Claire ends up back in 1743 it is wonderful :may34

I just started rereading it so that it’s fresh in my mind when the series starts. My husband and I are also spending a week in Scotland next month and we will be visiting some of the historical sites as well as where they’ve done some of the filming. I am just a *wee* bit excited :may223

    • Heidi says:

I don’t have Netflix, so can’t watch Orange is the New Black…tho I’ve heard about it.

And I missed the Salem premiere, so I have to go back & try to catch it from the beginning. Same for Sleepy Hollow. One of theses days… :may19 I do watch The Following, though!

Mostly I’m talking about *brand new* shows that haven’t debuted yet. I keep seeing previews for tons of stuff, but almost nothing looks interesting enough to me. :may24

        Reason # 1 u picky
Reason #2 have u heard of this invention called the internet where u go on the channels webpage and watch episodes
Reason #3 look at twitter inbox :May10

        • Heidi says:

:may32 I watch way too much TV already…I *try* not to add too much new stuff each season. Something really has to intrigue me to get added to the lineup.

And I’m definitely a TV girl; I don’t watch stuff at the computer or from the internet. I spend enough time online; when I watch TV, I’m either on the Torture Cycle or writing. Not willing to break that habit for much of anything. :may20

      • Enes says:

I have had a few images sent to me in an RAK and have used them all up, so now would be a fniaasttc time for me to win her as I have fallen in Love with this cutie pie…I adore your card Bev it is stunning..Lynn xx

  3. Laura J. says:

The only 2 of the above I will watch is Undateable (same reason as you) and the new NCIS (also same reason as you). I have seen Undateable and it’s cute. His character is more like Whitney in this one so he’s kind of a cute douchbag. Most likely though it won’t last.

    • Heidi says:

Ha! We are so alike, Darling Laura! :may21

Was Undateable on already? I must have missed it. :May37 Yeah, I don’t see it lasting very long, either, but was willing to give it a try because…well, see above. :may15

      • Laura J. says:

I *think* it was on last night? Possibly. It’s been a rough few days so I’m kinda all mixed up. It was also 2 episodes back to back and I only caught one of them.

        • Heidi says:

:may24 I’m surprised I didn’t mark it in my TV guide…I watch for that sort of thing so I don’t miss it. (I know, I know—good job, Heidi! :may39 )

So was it good? Maybe it’ll repeat or I’ll catch the next one.

Guess I was too focused on June 9th for the return of Major Crimes & premiere of Murder in the First. Those I did set the DVR to record, so we’ll see… :may34

  4. Dee says:

I agree about NCIS: NOLA. Enjoyed the 2 part crossover and Lucas Black’s accent was hitting me in the feels.

(If Laura has not dibbed yet, I do)

Forever (about an immortal medical examiner – sounds weird but hot guy starring)
    Madam Secretary looks interesting (CBS)
Stalker (CBS) because of Dylan Mcdermott alone (dibs)

    :may38

    • Heidi says:

Isn’t he adorable? I still see him as that awesome, talented kid on American Gothic, but he’s grown up nicely. :may2

What channel will Forever be on? I don’t think I’ve even heard of it. :may4

Madame Secretary & Stalker…eh. I’m not a fan of Tea Leone; her voice just grates on me. Plus I’ve never really liked those high political-type shows.

I do love Dylan McDermott, but can’t even remember what Stalker is supposed to be about. I still thought he was on Hostages…but apparently that was cancelled. :may24

We’ll see. I might stumble into them at some point. :May10

  5. Dee says:

Forever is ABC I think. The protagonist is played by Ioan Gruffeld.

From what I read of Hostages, it was meant to be a story arc and have an end. I guess it made it easier to cancel. But I am definitely going to check out Stalker.

    • Heidi says:

Huh, I haven’t heard about Forever yet, cuz that definitely doesn’t ring bells.

They should have promoted Hostages as a mini-series if they intended it to wrap up sooner rather than later. I did wonder how they’d manage to keep it rolling when you can only stretch the hostage situation so far. :may24

  6. Mary Kirkland says:

I’m thinking of watching the last ship and strain but NCIS New Orleans will not be on here. I watched the lead up to this new show while they worked a case with NCIS and I’m sorry it’s just not done well at all. Plus, Scott Bakula has a fake fake fake new orlenas accent that he does NOT pull off. It’s horrendous.

    :may31

    • Heidi says:

We’ll have to compare notes on the scary ones, Mary. :may4

I actually liked the NCIS: NOLA episode worked into NCIS, but *totally* agree with you on Scott Bakula’s accent. That will take some serious mental power to get past. :may24 But then there’s Lucas Black & his melted butter accent…I’m willing to put up with the one to get the other. :may2

  7. Hollie says:

I’m sorry, but I will not share what series I’m looking forward to this season…SOMEONE..not naming names (Heidi)…is a JINX!!!!!
I still love ya..but a girl has to have SOME shows to watch that are still good! :may7
