Question of the Week

All right, My Darlings, I need your help…which is why I’m sharing this Question of the Week with you. :may11

I need to know how much reach my “Fans of Heidi Betts” Facebook Page is having.  So if you’re a “Fan”—& I hope you are…or if you’re not, that you soon will be :may2 —can you share your experiences with me by answering a few of these questions?

#1 — How often do my posts show up in your feed?

I’ve been posting to my “Fans” page at about 10:00am, 1:00pm, 4:00pm, & 7:00pm (EST) every day.  The 10:00am & 4:00pm posts are usually the same, alerting you to whatever is going on here in The Dungeon.  The 1:00pm & 7:00pm posts are usually a joke or cartoon, maybe our “Word of the Week” or “Question of the Week.”

Are you seeing all of these posts?  Or are you only seeing one or two of them randomly?

Am I driving you crazy with duplicate posts that act as reminders in case you didn’t see the earlier announcement?  Or are you not seeing the majority of posts, so it doesn’t matter how often I post almost the same thing?

And should I continue to post multiple things multiple times a day, or would a single daily post be enough?

#2 — What would you like to see on my “Fans of Heidi Betts” Page?

Do you appreciate the reminders of what’s going on here in The Dungeon?

Do you enjoy the “Word of the Week” & “Question of the Week” posts?

Do you like the jokes & funnies & cartoons?  And if you do, which kind are your favorite…random jokes? stuff that leans a little to the naughty side? reader funnies/observations? other?

When I’ve got a new book coming out, I try to make sure you know all about it by posting the cover, blurb, trivia, excerpts, etc.  But between books…& I’m in the middle of a long stretch of no new releases right now :may33 …would you like to hear more about my writing?  If so, what would you like to hear about?

I’m not great at talking about my everyday writing process because I fear giving away too much about the story, but if that’s what you’d like to see, I’ll surely try.  And you can help me by telling me what sort of stuff you’d like to see on my “Fans of Heidi Betts” Page.  Or even what other authors are doing that you enjoy & would like to see me do, as well.

So tell me what you like, what you don’t like, & what you think would not only increase my Facebook traffic, but help you to enjoy my page even more! :may3

I am a fan, have been for a while. Most of the time the only time I see the posts is when I click on “Page’s feed” Then the different pages I’ve liked will come up and I can see what is going on in them. Since most pages posts don’t show up in my regular feed for some reason I check my pages feed every day. I like what you post and do like the reminders what what’s happening here because I click the links sometimes when I haven’t visited here yet that day.

    :may14

    • Heidi says:

Thanks, Mary. It’s frustrating to know my posts aren’t showing up in readers’ feeds automatically :May37 & I’m not sure how to “cure” that. FB can be so persnickety sometimes. I’m glad you remember to check, tho, so you don’t miss anything! :may14

And thanks for letting me know the duplicates/reminders are helpful. I feel silly sometimes, worrying I’m annoying people with the same info over & over, but if you’re not seeing it the first time, I don’t want you to miss anything, either. :may30

  2. Hollie says:

    Yep…what Mary said…and I share when I see them.

  3. Connie Payne says:

What Mary said…plus I enjoy, very much, the posts about the animals, snippets of your day, etc. It helps me get to know you better in another way and not just through your books.

    • Heidi says:

Thanks, Connie! Now, I mostly share animal stuff & daily tidbits on my PERSONAL page, not the “Fans” one. Would you prefer that I share more personal stuff on the “Fans” page? Be careful, tho…I could talk about The Kittehs all day & you may end up regretting that request. :may19

That’s A QUESTION FOR EVERYBODY, btw! And another QUESTION FOR EVERYBODY: How much personal stuff is too much? What kind of personal stuff do you want to hear?

I’m careful not to post too much “political” or “soapbox” stuff on my “Fans” page, but since my Personal page is…well, personal, it’s more of a free-for-all. But I don’t mind sharing more on the “Fans” page if that’s what readers enjoy. :may7

      • Mary Kirkland says:

I actually really like the personal stuff. Hearing about the books, the pets, real life situations. It lets us get to know our favorite author even more.

        :may223

      • Connie Payne says:

Yes, I would. I enjoy it very much and wish that more authors would share! Nothing intimate or personal. What you do write is just enough, I think. It’s nice to be able to relate and comment, or “like” on things that we find are similar in our day(s). :may7

      • Heidi says:

Mary & Connie both… (& anyone else who wants to chime in)

And you’re talking about posting this sort of thing to the “FANS” page? I know I have readers who “like” my “Fans” page & are also friends on the Personal one…which is fine with me. I just don’t want folks to think I’m too “all about me” on one if that stuff should be kept to the other.

ANOTHER QUESTION: If I post the same personal-type stuff on *both* pages, will the duplication annoy you?

        • Mary Kirkland says:

The duplication never annoys me. I realize that some people won’t see both pages and might only being seeing one page or another.

        • Connie payne says:

On either/both pages. Sometimes I don’t get every single post, so the repetition wouldn’t bother me. Thanks for asking our opinion!

        • Heidi says:

Mary & Connie both…this is a huge relief, thanks for letting me know. I feel so silly repeating things, but as you said, I never know who’s seeing what when…or where. Now I know I can share the same thing on both pages, post reminders of earlier posts, etc. without driving you all crazy! :may39

  4. Yazmin R. says:

I am a fan on FB. I see every other post, but not all. Which is why I don’t mind the multiple posts, that way I have more chances of FB actually showing it to me at least once.

I like the funnies and knowing what’s going on in the Dungeon. I would like to hear more of what you are currently working on even if it is a long time before publishing, it actually makes me look forward to it being released. Maybe a sentence every once in a while to keep us in suspense, or even a random funny typo that changes the entire sentence. :mat27

    • Heidi says:

Awesome idea, Yazmin—thanks so much! I’ll really try to step that up, because I love the idea, too..I just forget as I’m writing to stop & share snippets. :may20

And here’s another QUESTION FOR EVERYBODY: When you do visit my “Fans” page, do you scroll down to check posts you may have missed or only glance at the most recent one that showed up in your feed?

      • Yazmin R. says:

I personally like to scroll down and see if I’ve missed anything. FB is not very reliable now and will only show me a few post of the pages I like. So I tend to go directly into the pages every once in a while and scroll to see any new or interesting stuff I may have missed.

        • Heidi says:

So glad to hear this! And, yeah…I’ve noticed that, too. :May37

I hope others scroll thru, too, cuz sometimes there’s really funny stuff buried on there. :mat27
