zombies need love, too

Speaking of zombies…as we’ve sort of been doing all month long :animlaughing …

How many of you have read a zombie romance?

I have to admit, I never have. :animpeekaboo

Gasp!—I know.  And the funny thing is, I’d really like to.  I guess I just haven’t had the chance yet, or maybe haven’t stumbled across one that looked/sounded interesting enough to pick up.  When I say that, though, I should probably clarify that I haven’t really looked all that hard.  There may be a ton of great zombie romance novels floating around out there, but so far, none have pinged my radar & landed at the top of my To Be Read list.

But I’m totally open to changing that.  So tell me—have you ever read a zombie romance?  How about any kind of zombie fiction?

And if you did, what did you think?

What titles/authors might you recommend?

On the other side of the coin, if you haven’t read a zombie romance or bit of zombie fiction, why not?

Do you hate zombies or think a zombie romance would be gross?  Or are they not your cup of tea because you prefer your romance a little more straightforward & paranormal-free?

Either way, I’m totally okay with it, I’m just curious.

And one of these days, I really am going to read a zombie romance. :balloongoingup

Maybe I’ll even write one. :cheerswedding

:balloongoingup I have read one short zombie romance. I think it was in A Valentine from Harlequin: Six Degrees of Romance. You can still get it for free from Harlequin.
I have also read some comics with zombies in them. For instance in Lio By Mark Tatulli there are zombies and other more or less dead characters. One of the comic books By Tatulli is actually called Zombies Need Love Too.

Sorry, Minna…you were actually the first commentor of the day (congrats—you shall survive the Zombie Apocalypse…at least for the next 24hrs :snowmanskiing ) but your post went into the Pending file because it included links. I just now saw it & released it from bondage. :pigbat

Hey, I think I have that collection. Maybe. Now I have to check. And if I do, read the zombie short. :balloongoingup

I’ve only read one and it was My Zomibie Ex Boyfriend by Cora Zane. It’s a novella and the zombie is the ex boyfriend so he’s Doesn’t really see romance in the book which was alright with me. I’m just not all that into Zombies. I did watch that movie Warm Bodies and didn’t even like that all that much. I’m all about the vampires and shifters, not so much zombies.

    • Heidi says:

Vampires & shifters definitely have a higher romance quotient than zombies. :animlaughing

I’ve got Warm Bodies on the DVR, but haven’t watched it yet. I hope I like it; it doesn’t have to be wonderful, maybe just moderately amusing. :balloongoingup

I’ve read several zombie romances and mysteries and I’m not too fond of them. If they are really zombies, how can they be truly sexy or smart?

Diana Rowland’s White Trash Zombie series is probably the one I like the most, but her zombies are very close to human…if they get brains.

    • Heidi says:

I was on a panel once where the topic of zombie romances came up, & everyone poo-pooed the idea, wondering how the heck zombies could be romantic. I can see how it could be done; have got a few ideas of my own, actually. :kisssnowman But I do agree that it needs to be done carefully & believably.

I’ve read a ton of Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romances, but I haven’t read any Zombie Romances. The entire body decomposing thing makes me feel a bit icky. No necrophilia please. I can’t get the thought out of my head that body parts might start to fall off at ANY time….. :animaprincess

But if anyone can make a zombie sexy, I have faith you can Miss Heidi. And if you do, I’ll be the first in line to buy it. :pigbat

Have a great evening y’all. :balloongoingup

    • Heidi says:

What did I see recently…? Something about “It’s not necrophilia if he can bite back.” :animlaughing If I ever did a zombie romance, I think it would probably be more along the lines of a h/h surrounded by zombies, not necessarily making a main character one of the walking dead. :animenope But we’ll see.

But did any of those urban fantasy or paranormal titles have zombies *in* them—even if it wasn’t a main character, but simply a plot device? I’d be okay with that, too. :buttwiggle

      • TamVans says:

Deadtown by Nancy Holzer has a Zombie character that has a pretty big part in the storyline. Pretty good series too. It’s more Urban Fantasy than Paranormal Romance. There is some romance to it, but that isn’t the driving force of the story. Think you might like it.

  5. Liz Lincoln Steiner says:

It’s not what you mean by a zombie romance, I’m guessing, but I have Zombie in Love, which is a picture book about a zombie, Mortimer, who tries to find love. It’s very cute and my 4 year old daughter thinks it’s hilarious. We have a few other picture books about zombies. But those are the only ones I’ve read. I did listen to the audiobook of World War Z. It was very cleverly done, with different voice actors for each of the narrators. But the story didn’t grab me (Haven’t seen the movie, but I’m told they’re not very similar).

If I ever read a zombie romance, it would have to be as a few people have mentioned – h/h fighting zombies. I just can’t buy a zombie love interest, unless the author significantly changed the zombie lore. In which case it wouldn’t really be a zombie.

    • Heidi says:

Hey, see my “Faves” page—I *love* children’s books. Never heard of that one, but not I’m kind of eager to check out Mortimer the zombie. :green12

I haven’t seen the World War Z movie yet, either, but really, really want to! If it disappoints, maybe I’ll go back & read the book for the “true” experience. :green30
