it’s only a test

Last week, I shared with you the full cover flat & back cover blurb for PROJECT: RUNAWAY HEIRESS (Harlequin Desire, April 2013).

Photobucket

Unfortunately, the full cover graphic is a little too small for you to read the blurb right off the back of the book, so I’ll reprint it for you:

Undercover Fashionista

When her designs keep showing up on a rival’s runway, heiress and fashion designer Lily Zaccaro vows to catch the thief. She comes up with the perfect plan—run off to L.A. and go undercover as personal assistant to the other label’s CEO, Nigel Stratham, aka the sexiest Brit alive.

As long work days turn into sizzling nights, Lily struggles to stay focused on her secret mission. She desperately hopes that Nigel is innocent because their relationship is anything but! In the face of so much deception, pretty soon their newfound love is hanging on by a thread….

But while that’s the blurb that will appear on the back of the book, as well as sites like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, & probably even eHarlequin itself, it’s not the blurb I intend to post on my website, blog, or anywhere else.  This one is…

Can you spot the difference?  It’s a small one.  Teeny-tiny, actually, though it bothers me quite a lot. :dislike

I’ll give you a hint:  Mistress Heidi is one-third in love with Jason who? :hot

All right, if you’ve given it the old Dungeon try, I’ll tell you…  The hero’s name is misspelled.  It should be Statham (after Darling Jason, of course :flutter ), but will appear on the book (& in most straight-from-the-publisher promotions) as Stratham.

So not get me started.  I pitched as much of a looney as I was able :starwars but thanks to the week New York was closed (yes, the entire city was closed) due to Hurricane Sandy, things fell behind & the step where authors are sent the back cover copy for their books so they can proofread for just this sort of mistake was bypassed. :waaa

I know, I know—it’s probably not that big a deal.  90% of you probably wouldn’t even have noticed if I hadn’t drawn your attention to it.  And even if every single reader who picks up a copy of PROJECT: RUNAWAY HEIRESS notices the discrepancy, only about 10% will be bothered by it or take the time to contact me & point it out.  (Please don’t; I’m aware, & it will only upset me all over again. :luvsmenot )

But there you have it—the only teeny-tiny mistake on an otherwise perfect cover.  And with luck, there won’t be a single typo in the book, either.  Fingers crossed!

    Well we will know.

    • Heidi says:

I hope you mean “we’ll know how his name is really spelled” & not “we’ll always know there’s a mistake on the cover!” :charmer

What can I say—the cover is so awesome, I thought I’d finally achieved perfection, but now *I* know that little “r” is there. Mocking me. :moonyou

  2. Mary Kirkland says:

    It’s still fabulous.

  3. Jessica Lemmon says:

I didn’t notice! :love that cover!

  4. Fedora says:

I did puzzle over that extra “r”… but honestly, most people won’t give it a second thought! Looking good, Heidi! :love

    • Heidi says:

I suspect most people won’t notice until they start reading & go, “Wait, I thought his name was…” & start to compare the two.

I just don’t want them to hold it against me! :luvsmenot

  5. Laura J. says:

I didn’t notice it at all. I’m such a bad Heidi fan that I didn’t realize they spelled Mr. Jason Statham Betts correctly. splat

To make it up to you, I volunteer to pick up Mr. Jason Stratham Betts in New York and drag is adorably cute butt down to the publishers and make him get them to fix it for you. :flutter

    • Heidi says:

:like Hey, he’s going to be on LIVE! tomorrow. I think I need to set my alarm so I’m up in time to see him.

Or maybe, like you said, I should just haul ass to NY tonight. :muahaha

  6. PattiF says:

I recall a Desire I read a few years ago that had a different first name for the heroine on the backcover blub from what was in the book. So, it could be worse… Lily could be Liz between the pages. :lol

    • Heidi says:

True. I had one where my hero’s name changed briefly on a single page—Creed to Chance, I think. Boy, did I get letters…like I had anything to do with it. :waaa

The name I keep *thinking* is going to get misspelled is actually Zaccaro. I try to be careful & double-check it as often as I can. :tongue
