I somehow got roped into substitute pet-sitting for Madame Mommy Dearest today while she attends her high school reunion—four dogs & two cats. :seymour:
But I’m working on revisions right now for Top Secret Project #1, so I really shouldn’t be spending time doing anything else. Especially since I can’t say they’re going swimmingly. :headdesk:
So I’m taking along my laptop & charger, my earbuds to block out the world, & all of my notes, with every intention of working, working, working.
Unfortunately, I suspect my day will be spent a lot more like this:
Also, there will be pizza. Because—to paraphrase Leonard on an episode of The Big Bang Theory—if I’m going to do this, Heidi’s got to get paid…
Ha! Well, scratch all that. :giraffe:
About an hour before I was scheduled to leave for all of the above, MMD called & said, “Hey, never mind—you don’t need to fill in for me, after all!” :beehappy:
Turns out the folks she’s pet-sitting for have a neighbor who checks in on the furbabies once in a while when the hoomans are going to be late or go away for just a day trip. The woman said she’d be more than happy to pop over a few times & take care of the lap-doodles while MMD is at her reunion dinner.
So, yay! I am of the hook & have been able to stay home & work on my edits, after all. Happy dance! :swing:
P.S. MMD also said, “I’m still going to get you a pizza before I leave!” which is just about the sweetest thing, ever! :flowers: I didn’t let her, though. I can get pizza any time, & since I’m not helping her out, she doesn’t need to bride…er, pay…er, feed me. I’ll do the Raccoon Raid right here at home, as usual. :morning:
Jumping ahead a bit on the “I’ve got a secret” teasers, I’m currently working on edits for Top Secret Project #1 & was having a bit of trouble bolstering my hero’s conflict.
Then the other day, while reading a chunk of Lori Wilde’s Love at First Sight, it came to me—boom!
The solution to my editing problem didn’t actually have anything to do with Lori’s story, but the way she did something was exactly what I needed to see/hear/read in that moment to get my brain to spit out what I needed for my own book.
I went from Think, think, think—come on, brain, gimme something…
To Yes! That’s so good, I can hardly stand it!
And now I am back on track, juices flowing, progress being made.
It’s a good thing.
Thanks, Lori. :alice:
Something big is taking place today, making me equal parts excited & nervous. img31
I can’t share just yet, but believe me…if all goes off without a hitch, I will definitely be telling you all about it. img20
In the meantime, all I ask is that you…
And I’ll fill you in as soon as I can.
I was up late writing last night! :img16
Like, 4am late.
But it was going really, really well, which is why I didn’t notice how late it was getting. :img14
When I started to get punchy & found a spot I could quit without forgetting what I wanted to have happen next, I decided to go to bed. (Duh.) But deciding to go to bed & actually being able to go to bed are two entirely different things here at Casa del Heidi. :img36
I put my laptop away & walked in to find my bed…shall we say…occupied. Although “covered with cats” would be a better description.
Harley & Nicholas were curled together like Yin & Yang pretty much dead center. Then Simon was closer to the upper left corner & Tigger was in the right upper corner. Which pretty much left only about three feet of space at the very foot of the bed. And should I mention that Pekoe was sound asleep in my chair, which is usually my secondary sleep option when The Kittehs have called dibs on the big bed? :img22
With very few options left, & not too keen to actually sleep on the floor, I did what I had to do. Like a good Cat Lady, I grabbed a blanket & spare pillow & squeezed into a ball at the bottom of the bed. As Vanellope von Schweetz (Wreck-It Ralph) would say, “…like a little homeless lady.”
And I slept that way—fairly well, amazingly enough. At some point, I even felt Pekoe walk over me & snuggle up against my butt. That meant the chair was finally empty, but I was too darn tired to get up & move.
Around 8:30am, The Kittehs woke me for breakfast, so I got up & stumbled my way downstairs to feed them. Then I stumbled my way back upstairs & found my bed gloriously empty! Huzzah! :img5
So of course not being an idiot, I quickly crawled under the covers & made myself comfortable in the center of my very own mattress & went back to sleep. Yes, when I woke up again later in the morning, I had another kitteh pressed against my back, but at least this time he had to work around me & not the other way around. :img17
